This project for a modest local school was developed in a relatively isolated village in the province of Cuenca.

A well-lit, interior multi-purpose space, conceived as a covered courtyard, was created at the heart of the building to address the near-total lack of available outside space on the plot.

A simple layout comprises three small classrooms, toilets, and a staff office, along with a shared play area.

The façades, finished in render, concrete, and stone, draw on the local building tradition, although their formal expression avoids the clichés of rural composition.

The opportunity to design these small buildings that enhance the learning experience of pupils in remote provincial villages has been a source of immense satisfaction for the practice and a great deal of care and attention has gone into their design and construction, often under challenging conditions.
